A lungo is also occasionally called a 'extended coffee', and in French it is called a café allongé. This should not be puzzled, however, with an Americano, which is an Italian design coffee with hot water added. Additionally not to be confused with a lungo is a lengthy black, where you include a brief black straight to the hot water-- basically the opposite of an Americano. The reason for this swap around is so you could pour the brief black in as quickly as it's drawn out, protecting even more of the crema.
