Ok. I need help from the brain-trust...
you know...
the good folks that hang out on this forum.

I have a growing pile of schwag and gifts from various vendors - given to me to give away to you good people to celebrate the relaunch of the coffeecrew website;

Syrups, coffees, t-shirts, coffee storage devices and some other very, very special prizes!

Question is: How the heck to I give it all away?

I think I am going to have to make some decisions.
I like the idea of a coffee essay contest... but I am not sure how that is going to go over with the readers.

So. I ask my people. That is YOU the hard-core forum readers:
What to do? What to do?

Hmmmm,
How about you give it to those who respond with suggestions on who to give it to...

Perhaps reward participation-Select winners from the ones with the most posts in a given time period.

Most patient poster-Reward the owner of the oldest post not yet receiving a reply, or the post having the longest span between initial post and first reply. (Assuming they are still a member and didn't give up in disgust).

Poster receiving the most views/replies in a given period.

Best response to : I deserve free swag from Colin because-(25 words or less).

Poetry.
Photo.
Short story.

Best recipe for a coffee drink or something made with coffee in it.

I've got more ideas, how much stuff is left to give away?

Here is the thing - I have a growing pile of stuff that I have yet to give away...

And I like your ideas.

Here are some samples:

T-Shirts from Espresso parts.
Cups and saucers, syrups, Vacu-vin device and illy coffee from EspressoTec.com
I have written commitment from a "major grinder" manufacturer for a grinder worth between 300 and 500 dollars.
I have commitment from an Australian manufacturer for a $500 coffee maker for give-away.
Other vendors have queued up ready to toss in stuff when I am ready with a plan.

My favorite idea so far are sending things to the most active forum posters - but I am also open to taking creative submissions from our regular and not so regular readers.

Here's another thought, but it is a bit more complicated and will require a bit more work.

Why not do some good with some of the nicer stuff by raffling it off, proceeds to go to one or more pre-named charities. Sell tickets for $5 each (or whatever), three names will be drawn from entries to win a prize. Of course, you would need to identify charities that are not political, that anyone interested in the website would be willing to support. You might also want to choose charities who have very low administrative costs, so the bulk of the money donated will be used in the areas it was intended to suport(eg. World Hope International or Living Water International). It might help if they have something to do with coffee (CoffeeKids.org). This also means you would be responsible for receiving and accounting for all the money that is sent in. You might also want to work with the local coffee houses to promote it in their stores and maybe get one of them to allow you to process debit/credit card donations through their account. You might also get a link on your sponsors websites to attract some traffic. Of course, there's always the ever present/ever pesky law, government and taxes that may need to be addressed. Like I said, it's a bit more work, but at least you'll know it was for a good cause.

Thought of that...

It is not that difficult - and I do raise money on another of my websites... selling spoken word CD's to benefit a local food bank... and to date we have sold around 500 CD's at 10$ a pop.

I guess when it comes down to giving away a very valuable item or two, it might just do the World some good...

Well - if any of our readers are for that...

SPEAK UP NOW -
not getting a lot of feedback.

Colin,

I'm thinking a raffle for some of the nicer items wouldn't hurt. And it's good for you and the coffeecrew. Can't say as I would disagree with that at all. Just sell me the darn Bellman already yet. :P

Cheers, Guy :side:
