Grinders was created by PTivvy
I'm having a difficult time trying to get the right grind with my Zassenhaus manual grinder and have decided to get an electric grinder and keep the manual for the FP. I'm wondering if I can get some opinions or recommendations on the following grinders (all very close in price):

LELIT PL43
LELIT PL53
CAPRESSO INFINITY
BARATZA VIRTUOSO

I've looked at most of the reviews for these grinders and believe they all good and bad points but I need some personal insights.

Thanks

Of those I would get the Baratza Virtuoso - and avoid the Capresso like a bad cold...

Colin likes the Virtuoso, and seems to have had more luck than I have. I struggled with a Virtuoso for almost a year before giving up and buying a Vario. The Virtuoso is just not finely adjustable enough to make exceptional espresso. I would not recommend it as a suitable grinder for espresso only.

The Capresso is inadequate for great espresso.

The LeLit PL53 is far more highly recommended for espresso use than the Virtuoso. Although it's loud, messy, and not as robust as the Virtuoso, it is more finely adjustable, and uses the Trespade burr set which is said to deliver exceptional grind quality at this price range. Some have compared its grind quality to a Mazzer Super Jolly. The PL53 is not recommended for other brewing methods. It should be used exclusively for espresso.

I'm not familiar with the PL43.

If you do decide to go with Colin's advice, at least wait a little while until the new Virtuoso Preciso comes out. It has all the best qualities of the Virt, but it has an added fine adjustment dial that will overcome the glaring weakness of the current Virtuoso. I think they're due to ship at the end of March.

Totally agree with that approach!

Good call.

they are more like a gummy sap.

Thanks for the input. I'll have to do some more research and learn about the new Virtuoso. The downside is mucking about with the manual until it comes out and I'm not sure I can wait not to mention the frustrations.
