Where to store whole beans? was created by Req
Where exactly is the best place to store both un-opened bags of whole bean coffee and opened bags of whole bean coffee?

I keep un-opened ones in the cupboard and once they are opened I put them in the fridge (not the freezer). But then I hear moisture hurts coffee. So what do I do?

The worse thing you can do with whole bean coffee is...

put them in the fridge.

Yup. Afraid so.

They should be stored in an airtight tin or canister that is light-proof as well - at room temperature.

If you have too many to consume in a week: Put your beans in a ZIP-LOC freezer bag IN THE DEEP Freeze.

Even better: Double zip-loc bagged.
You will compromise flavor some, but freezing them in this way - they will keep "indefinitely"

The fridge (at between 33 and 39 degrees) is the ultimate bad environment for coffee -

Thanks for your reply! I'll be keeping them in the freezer now :)

But question: If you will be using the beans everyday, would keeping the opened bags in the cupboard be okay or would you still use the freezer?

A good rule is (if possible) - buy one weeks worth of coffee at a time - not always possible for folks who have to order their great coffee via the mail...

Every coffee needs to be either stored in an air-tight canister or double ziploc'ed in the freezer.
