To be honest (and not blunt...) - every new user feels "this cannot be right - must be broken!"

It is not unusual for water to gush out of the steam wand under certain circumstances - I mean, all you need to do is OPEN the steam wand and press the brew switch - bingo, hot water out of the wand.

URNEX is good for flushing - but there are lots of products.

More in a moment - running to dinner... pouring wine.

so when i use the blind filter my steam valve should be closed correct? if water starts to come out while cleaning(while brew button is open) i should just open steam valve? what product should i use to clean plastic tubes and inner lines? when i prime the machine i have the steam valve open and brew button open then i close brew button and turn steam valve off and still there are a few drips of water coming out of the steam wand. is that normal?

Use your blind filter exactly to factory specs.

It is a back flushing device - and to me, this means...

-Heat up machine.
-Prime machine.
-Place blind filter in PF with a few grains of suitable
cleaner.
-Make sure steam wand valve is CLOSED.
-Press BREW switch for about 2-3 seconds

You will hear the Silvia pump build to "straining"

-Switch OFF brew switch and you should hear a SWISH of
water into the drip tray through the pressure escape pipe
that drains into the drip tray.

Repeat a couple of times - REMEMBER: 2-3s bursts of the brew
cycle while the blind filter is in place.

Use the same product for all machine internals: Urnex, clearcaf, purCaf, Joe-Glo or whatever - you can even use powdered "Citric Acid" available in bulk at most health food and supplement stores - for a couple of $ for a pound.
Use the same amount you would for the commercial product. It is food safe and it is CHEAP!

thank you colin u've been extremely helpful. the urnex bottle said 5 bursts with the blind filter each 10 seconds: unless i read incorrectly. i guess that is excessive, n'est ce-pas?.
