Well hello all. This is new for me, the coffe "love" thing !!. I have recently revived my love for coffee and am at a crossroads. My drip machine recently died and I purchased a Technivorm Moccamaster after reading some good reviews and wanting to get back to some good coffee. Both my wife and I love cap and latte, as well as espresso and I have been reviewing my options for an espresso machine. I was so close to pulling the trigger on a super-auto Gaggia Titanium but held off - going back and forth between the Gaggia and a few other machines. I inherited a couple of years back an espresso machine and recently pulled it out of the dust, not used in probably 10 years - a La Pavoni Professional, with an orange base.
As I want to get more involved in the coffe specialty, should I look at getting this overhauled?? worth it??
When I backed off the super-auto (becasue of lack of reliability) I thought of going with a Gaggia Classic - with the option of learning the tricks of the trade and also being able to use pods while I do this?? I have a Baratza Maestro Plus grinder. I also have a stove top machine (yeah, I know) which makews pretty good coffee as well and was wondering if this would keep me happy while I just buy a Milk Frother - was thinking of the Breville which I saw reviewd on another site??
Any thoughts would be welcome.
Budget is a grand.
By the way, can anyone tell me why there is such a discrepancy in Candian and US prices?? and if I buy stateside, will my warranty be valid. I had an opportunity to get, for example, the gaggia titanium refurbished from an online supplier at 699, or new at 899 - its 400+ more from canadian retailers???? and I would prefer buying local but really??
Thanks for any feedback.

Actually - we spoke via e-mail.

All good questions -- but a little tough to give a single answer.

Personally, I have abandoned espresso coffee entirely to focus on pour-over, french and powered drip coffee...

Which is not to say that anyone else should do this...
And I do have a pretty good base of knowledge where
espresso is concerned.

1000 dollars? A Silvia and a Rocky.... still.
Or a Silvia and a Baratza Vario.

I know how well the Silvia is reviewed - but as a newbie I am a little concerned about the finicky nature of the Silvia - what would be a little more forgiving as an auto if I decide to go that way??
What's your take on the US ? Canada pricing issue. It seems a little ridiculous, as a matter of fact, insane. It seems like 9% duty to bring in a machine on prices that are half or less than Canadian prices - anything I am missing??
