What insolence !
The poor chap spent hundreds of thousands of dollars developping this coffee maker. I simply receive the emails automatically from his company, last one was for the rebate granted to those interested. Believe me Mr. Hiron is in NO position to give kickbacks.
For your info I consider myself the cause of the rejuvenated interest in the ATOMIC and have supplied perfect jugs to a few hundred people who needed them. A book on the Atomic has been in the works for a few years now, but with so many events, legal concerning the rebirth of the ATOMIC, and the coming of the OTTO I took a laid back approach to rethink the direction of this endeavor.
I am a builder, a doer, a manufacturer and understand excellent design and the gestation needed before bringing forth to the public something as controversial as his OTTO.
The naysayers will jump on any straw to support a negative attitude.
I never debate what is something of a pure commercial value and brings a slight innovation or improvement to an existing commodity.
This, I repeat is history in the coffee world.
This OTTO is a Maybach, a Rolex, a Ferrari in the coffee world.
Simply get one in your hands before insulting the cognoscenti.
In this world of ad nauseam advertising I understand your scepticism.
I auditively have known Mr. Hiron for a few years now and he has confided his quest for perfection. I consider myself a friend, that's all.
Bizarre attitude because you suggest that one ask all around:
Ask local baristas - they're like doctors, with whom we should consult on all things coffee.
2. Ask in forums
Of couse Baristas are the perfect people to ask about stovetops!
You think people have any as of now in forums?
I happen to have one and I'm enjoying it every time I use it and I make myself heard.
But that's not valid????
You owe me an apology.
No apology forthcoming, sir; none required - I used the word "imagine," and I doubt I am alone in my surprise at the vehemence in your posts. I have neither insulted the OTTO, nor its creator. Am not a naysayer nor a purveyor of negative attitude - how quickly you let fly on the keyboard! Seriously.
Canuk_guy may have a point re: over-caffeination.
My contributions (as admin, you can check all my posts) are nothing but attempts to assist people with questions, pose questions of my own, and in general embrace and share love of coffee with others that do, too. You deflate these efforts and drive me from the site.
You've ridiculed my suggestions, made flippant comments about methods of espresso extraction other than the one you are newly converted to and dragged a good discussion into the mud, primarily at my expense, whose only crime has been to try and bring a balanced perspective to Eamonn's question, which launched this thread within a thread.
A doer and builder you may very well be; you are also a bully. If anyone is owed an apology, it is I.
Lots of good points and passionate debate. Good to see! It means we care, care very much about the coffee we drink. Why? Let's not think about that...
I've been taking it all in and talking to some people who sell coffee machine, readng the net (although not much out independent opinion out there yet) and behold I'm going to get this damn Otto thing.
