Unpressurized Portafilter was created by arfenarf
I hope this isn't a double-post: I got ugly Joomla errors on my last attempt.

I'm looking for pointers to a Canadian vendor who could sell me an unpressurized portafilter for my Starbucks Barista machine.

I'm a mere apprentice, but I'd like to learn to take my lumps and improve my skills without the portafilter getting in the way.

Does anyone know what part number/name I'm looking for, or who I should buy from?

Yep, I'm in Victoria. I feel so guilty: I buy Discovery beans and turn them into swill. I want to learn to get better, but that portafilter's getting in the way. :(

I've received pointers to Saeco-USA, but thought I'd see whether someone on this side of the tax/duty/shipping border would be able to supply one.

BTW, nice job on the new forum.

The new forum is a tad buggy (putting it mildly)
but at least we are not losing any forum posts...

EspressoTec might have something for you -
Give them a call or visit their webpage.

Buying your beans at Discovery?
You could do worse grasshopper!

It is all a great big learning curve this
specialty coffee thang...

Do you have a decent burr grinder? If not, that'll be the source of your first lump, if not a serious dent in your wallet. As soon as you ditch the pressurized portafilter any grinder failings will be painfully apparent.

Buying the unpressurized portafilter is the cleanest solution, but you can undo the screws on your portafilter and remove the pressurization components if you don't have any luck in your search. If you do it carefully, the process is reversible.

Yes, I have a Baratza Virtuoso... so I have that whole set of opportunities to wreck my coffee available to me :)

Espressotec tell me that the portafilter I'm looking for isn't available anymore. I'll have to put a WTB ad up on that other coffee forum, I suppose. I'll only pull apart my current handle if it's the last possible option.
