Thanks - I wound up shipping one in from the East Coast a while back now.
There are a lot of old forum threads floating around Google's cache that make the unpressurized PF out to be an $18 item. That isn't true any more, anywhere I looked.
Tying this thread together with Colin's tamping one, I'm getting pretty good espresso these days, but am pretty much down to the low end of my grinder's range... I'm using setting \"3\" of 40 on this current batch, and may try taking it down to \"2\" tonight.
I've downloaded Baratza's recalibrating instructions, but am feeling a little nervous about mucking the whole thing up.
I have a Saeco Aroma and a Maestro Plus grinder. Without the pressurized PF, I found that the Aroma needs really fine grind. Barista must be the same. I grind at setting 2.
The housing for the Virtuoso is a bit difficult to take off. I bought a Virtuoso late last year but had calibration issues. The vendor calibrated it 3 times and still didn't work properly. I finally fed up and exchanged for a Maestro Plus.
I've also heard that if you don't line the housing up properly with the micro switch when you put the housing back, the grinder won't work.
